SMRT Launches Sale of 30th Anniversary Farecards

1.    As part of activities to mark SMRT’s 30th anniversary, a commemorative NETS FlashPay card with an SMRT train, bus and taxi as its key artwork will go on sale from Tuesday, 15 August 2017.

2.    The card is a limited edition. Priced at $12 (with $7 in stored value), the cards will be sold at Passenger Service Counters at SMRT train stations, https://Flashpay.nets.com.sg and NETS FlashPay roadshows island-wide, while stocks last.

3.    Each card will come pre-loaded with retail deals and rewards from participating NETS FlashPay merchants. These are “TotallyHotStuff”, “Eu Yan Sang” and “Food Junction”, as well as “WINK+ Rewards”.

4.    NETS CEO, Jeffrey Goh said: “This commemorative NETS FlashPay card marks our instrumental partnership with SMRT in Singapore’s transit market. Since its inception in 2009, the FlashPay card has emerged as the preferred payment choice for Singaporeans in their daily commute. Known for its speed and ease of use, FlashPay has now taken our cashless drive forward by offering commuters a convenient and seamless payment experience of using a single card to pay at 100,000 acceptance points beyond the transit network.”

5.    With the sale of the 30th Anniversary farecards, SMRT will make a special contribution to its adopted charities. These are “AWWA”, “Bizlink Centre”, “Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore”, “Geylang East Home for the Aged”, “Handicaps Welfare Association, “Muscular Dystrophy Association (Singapore)” and “SPD”.

6.    SMRT train services were launched on 7 November 1987, starting with just five stations along the North-South Line providing MRT services between Toa Payoh and Yio Chu Kang. In the past three decades, SMRT has grown its rail network to include the extension of the North-South Line, the launch of MRT services on the East-West Line and Circle Line and commencement of services on the Bukit Panjang Light Rail Transit. The company has also evolved into a multi-modal transport provider, with bus, taxi and private hire vehicles complementing its train services.

7.    SMRT’s commemorative 30th anniversary NETS FlashPay card is one of several activities to mark its milestone anniversary. In November, SMRT will host an open house at Bishan Depot where the public can get a firsthand view of train maintenance facilities and different types of passenger trains that serve the North-South and East-West Lines. SMRT has also planned a series of exhibits, including photos and information panels that recount SMRT’s growth, at various MRT stations.

8.    Mr Desmond Kuek, President and Group Chief Executive Officer, SMRT Corporation Ltd, said: “SMRT’s 30th anniversary falls in a milestone year for the North-South and East-West Lines, Singapore’s oldest, longest and most heavily-used MRT lines, as we have added greater connectivity for commuters with the Tuas West Extension. Work to renew and improve this 30-year-old line continues day and night, and new trains are being added every month. The limited edition SMRT 30th anniversary NETS FlashPay card reflects SMRT’s continued commitment towards delivering better MRT, bus and taxi services for commuters in Singapore. The donations given by SMRT to our adopted charities during this anniversary year build on our commitment to improve mobility and build a more inclusive society.”
