SMRT offers career pathways through various training programmes, mentorship opportunities and scholarships. Whether starting as an intern, graduate or Engineering and Management Associate, our people are encouraged to enhance their skill set, take on new challenges and progress in their careers.
For graduates, our EMA programme is a great opportunity to help us build and shape the future of the rail industry. It aims to equip you with the essential leadership and functional skills to enable you to succeed in your career.
Through a structured training programme that includes foundational training as well as On-the-Job Training (OJT), our EMAs gain valuable hands-on experience while deepening their technical and functional skills and competencies. They will also take on projects across business units, and participate in networking opportunities with our Senior Management and Engineering Leaders to gain valuable insights into the future.
The SMRT EMA programme is an incredible opportunity to do impactful work. As a fresh graduate, you have a chance to be part of key national (and international!) projects and build your technical and operational skills. These are big projects so the work is challenging; but you will have access to a strong network of peers and seniors from your current and past EMA batches to help and guide you. As you grow, the programme creates opportunities for you to lead teams and hone your leadership skills.
Ajay Govinda Menon, Manager, Station Service Operations
The programme is well structured with OJT, development courses and participation in CCAs to enhance our learning in SMRT in many ways. Recently, the company implemented a career path for Executives like myself to take on the Engineering Maintenance Manager role, which allows me to be on the ground, learning and working together with our ground staff. Though it may be challenging for juniors to take on this role, it allows me to be part of the front line activities in “moving people” every day. It is challenging and exciting to be working as railway operator. Be willing to accept every opportunity given to you and take things positively!
