All SMRT stations and bus interchanges receive SG Clean quality mark
1. All SMRT premises in the public transport network have received the SG Clean quality mark, signalling the company’s commitment to uphold high standards of environmental public hygiene and to provide safe, reliable and comfortable journeys for commuters. SMRT worked with the Land Transport Authority to receive the National Environment Agency’s SG Clean quality mark for all 59 stations on the North-South and East-West Lines, 30 stations on the Circle Line, 3 stations on the Thomson-East Coast Line, 13 stations in the Bukit Panjang Light Rail Transit network, and all 5 SMRT bus interchanges.
2. Mr Neo Kian Hong, Group Chief Executive Officer, SMRT Corporation, said: “As Singapore gradually resumes work and life in the post-circuit breaker period, SMRT is fully committed to work with the authorities, industry players and our commuters to keep our entire public transport network clean and safe for everyone.”
3. In the ongoing fight against the spread of COVID-19, SMRT will continue its stepped-up cleaning regime, which has been in effect since February. This includes intensified cleaning and disinfection of our premises and facilities to reduce transmission, and to safeguard the health and wellbeing of our commuters and staff. Areas with high commuter touchpoints will continue to be cleaned every two hours.
4. Introduced in SMRT’s network since January, hand sanitisers will continue to be made available for commuters at all MRT and BPLRT stations, and SMRT’s bus interchanges. With an expected increase in commuter footfall as Singapore gradually reopens its economy starting from 2 June, more hand sanitiser dispensers have been made available at MRT stations and bus interchanges. An additional 10 to 30 hand sanitisers will be progressively installed in each station at the entrances, lifts, platforms and concourse areas. At all bus interchanges, additional hand sanitiser dispensers will be made available at each boarding and alighting berth, as well as interchange access points.
5. In addition, SMRT has started using antimicrobial disinfectant coatings within its trains and buses.
6. Apart from the abovementioned measures, commuters are reminded that they need to wear a mask in public, practise good personal hygiene, as well as refrain from talking and be socially responsible while taking public transport. They are also encouraged to scan the SafeEntry QR codes that are in our public transport network, to better support contact tracing efforts, and to download the TraceTogether app as an extra safeguard.
