SMRT Trains and Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation join hands to achieve world-class standards

 

1. SMRT Trains and Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (TRTC) signed an agreement today to officially establish a sister metro relationship, as part of their efforts to foster deeper professional ties with one another and support the betterment of urban rail systems and services in Singapore and Taipei respectively.

 

2. Under the wide-ranging agreement, SMRT and TRTC – also known as Metro Taipei – will share know-how and best practices in operations and maintenance.

 

3. Both rail operators will partake in activities that would enhance their operations, maintenance and engineering capabilities, use of data analytics and emerging technologies, safety and security performance including cyber security, service excellence and commuter experience.

 

4. Both rail operators will exchange insights and experience in the promotion of Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG) related programmes, as well as the promotion of city tourism and marketing through commercial collaborations.

 

5. The agreement was signed today by Mr Seah Moon Ming, Chairman, SMRT Trains, and Mr Chao Shiao-lien, Chairman, TRTC. The signing was witnessed by Mr Lam Sheau Kai, President, SMRT Trains, and Mr Yang Chin-heng, Vice President, TRTC.

 

6. Also present at the signing ceremony was Mr Ngien Hoon Ping, Group CEO, SMRT Corporation. Senior TRTC management also joined in the ceremony via video link from Taipei.

 

7. The signing of the agreement represents a significant milestone for SMRT Trains and TRTC in their journey towards achieving world-class rail performance and service delivery.

 

8. Mr Seah said: “SMRT is fully committed to providing safe, reliable, and commuter-centric public transport service.  TRTC is also a world-class metro with a strong track record. Today marks a landmark collaboration between friends with over 30 years of close ties. Together, SMRT and TRTC strive towards delivering the best-in-class public transport service. Through this sister metro agreement with TRTC, we will share knowledge, expertise, and best practices with each other to provide our commuters with best-in-class commuting and lifestyle experiences.

 

This agreement is the latest chapter in our close relations, and we look forward to achieving our shared vision of a vibrant, greener, and more sustainable future for public transport in our respective cities.”

 

9. Mr Chao said: “The 30 over years of strong friendship between TRTC and SMRT started in 1990, when TRTC sent some of our employees to Singapore for training, from which we acquired valuable operational expertise. It brings me great pleasure to announce our continued commitment to enhance our collaboration through this Sister Metro Agreement.

 

Through exchanges of professional insights and experiences, we look forward to future collaborations in operations and maintenance, green transportation, city tourism through commercial collaborations and marketing. We look forward to seeing greater success for both TRTC and SMRT.”
