Singapore, 19 April 2018

Early Closure/Late Opening of MRT stations along the North-South Line in May 2018 for Maintenance and Improvement Works

1. To continue with the intensified railway maintenance and improvement works along the North-South Line (NSL), seven MRT stations from Khatib to Novena will close earlier at around 11.00pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and open later at around 8.00am on Saturdays and Sundays in May 2018.

2. The additional hours will more than double the available time for engineering teams to intensify maintenance and accelerate rectification works along the NSL’s MRT tracks. During these planned closures, commuters can still travel on the NSL between Jurong East and Yishun MRT stations, and between Newton and Marina South Pier MRT stations.

Commuters advised to plan journeys ahead

3. During the early closure and late opening of these seven MRT stations along the NSL, Shuttle Bus Service 9 will ply along the stretch of the NSL between Yishun and Newton MRT Stations, stopping at designated pick-up and drop-off points near the affected stations. In addition, an express bus service will be provided to complement Shuttle Bus Service 9. Express 16, which bridges between Ang Mo Kio and Serangoon MRT Stations, will provide commuters with direct connection to the North East Line and Circle Line (Refer to Annex B for shuttle bus details).

4. More information on train service timings during the early closure and late opening in May 2018 can be found in Annex A. When planning their journeys on affected dates, commuters are advised to check for station-specific timings on SMRT’s trains’ website and social media platforms, as the timing of the first and last trains departing the affected stations along the NSL may vary. Commuters are also reminded to cater for additional travel time when using the shuttle bus services.

5. SMRT will keep commuters updated on changes in timing to train operations and alternative transport arrangements on SMRT’s trains’ website: https://www.smrttrains.com.sg as well as through SMRT’s Facebook, Twitter feed and the SMRTConnect app.
