The Greener Way to Travel

Every train and bus ride goes towards reducing the global carbon footprint. Mass transit is hands-down the greenest way to get around, releasing way fewer greenhouse gases than travelling by a car.

Even after the pandemic, we’re encouraged by the rise in people using public transport, collectively contributing to Singapore’s efforts toward a greener future, for generations to come.

According to Land Transport Authority (LTA)*, taking the MRT reduces carbon footprint by 90% compared to taking an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) car.

With the expansion of rail network, 8 in 10 households will soon live within 10 minutes’ walk of a train station. Accessibility is key in encouraging the use of public transport over private vehicles.

SMRT Green Living Campaign

In partnership with the Land Transport Authority (LTA) and National Environment Agency (NEA), SMRT launched the SMRT Green Living Campaign in 2022.

Leveraging our vast network of transit advertising spaces across the island, we shared quick and practical tips with commuters on leading greener lifestyles.

More green-living pointers are available and commuters could turn to SMRT Is Green, where Cashie Greeny, a WINK+ personality, showcased his daily routines.
