Our people's growth is our central focus and we invest in upskilling our staff to foster competent leaders in their fields. These efforts include the SMRT Institute and Roads Training Institute, dedicated to training our team members for excellence in road and rail transportation.

We support our people’s pursuit in further studies through sponsorships under our Learning through Educational Advancement Programme (LEAP). Collaborating with Institutes like the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) and Singapore Polytechnic (SP), we offer upskilling programs to selected full-time staff who demonstrate strong performance and potential.  

SMRT's dedication to skills development and fostering a lifelong learning culture earned us the Gold Award at the SkillsFuture Employer Awards 2023. 


We have established valuable partnerships with five local polytechnics and ITE to bolster workforce readiness, support lifelong learning, and enhance employability. These collaborations have led to initiatives like student internships and lecturer attachments, providing enriching educational and professional experiences for both students and educators 

In line with our forward-thinking approach, we've invested in technologies like customised Virtual Reality (VR) training programmes to elevate our staff's learning journey. Our frontline employees now enjoy increased access to practice procedures, unrestricted by the availability of live equipment, thereby strengthening their competence in daily work processes. 


As part of our commitment to continuous training and upskilling, we've established robust workplace learning programs like the SMRT Train Engineer Professionalisation Program, Engineering Maintenance Manager Career Scheme, and Certification for Technical Specialist (Bus) program.  


Partnering with authorities, industry partners, and academic institutions, both locally and globally, we strive to create professional pathways for our staff. Through these partnerships with esteemed professional agencies, we support the effort to increase rail competency and the engineering profession.
