At SMRT, safety and health are paramount. We empower our workforce to work safely and confidently, with safety as our core value reflected in our behaviour, operations, and processes.

SMRT's mission is to be the best-in-class public transport service provider, fully committed to deliver a positive experience that is safe, reliable and commuter-centred. In discharging our responsibilities, we accord paramount importance to safety and health.

Our goal is to provide a safe, reliable, and commuter-centered experience, with a commitment to achieving the highest standards of safety and health, consistent with international best practices. We believe that all accidents are preventable and strive for zero accidents, fostering a workplace and transport network where everyone stays safe.

As part of our continual efforts to build a strong and robust Safety culture, we embark on several initiatives with our employees to reiterate the importance of Safety as an organisation-wide emphasis. This is encapsulated in our tagline to ‘Think Safety, Work Safely Go home Safe’.

We've implemented over 35 safety projects guided by Kaizen, addressing areas such as handbrake safety stickers for Bus Captains, safety guidelines in bus interchanges, and rubber stops to protect children.

Additionally, we host safety-centric events like our annual Trains and Roads Safety Forums, featuring activities to raise safety awareness and ownership among our staff, including presentations of Kaizen for Safety projects and updates on safety initiatives.

SMRT aspires to be the Queen Bee of Safety in Singapore Land Transport and intends to partner all our contractors and original equipment manufacturers on this journey to collectively enhance the safety and health of our workforce and commuters.

The SMRT-Contractor Safety Community of Practice amplifies cooperation between SMRT and our contractors, facilitate safety dialogues, share case studies, and promote best safety practices among professionals.
