SMRT has taken a significant step forward with the implementation of the iSafe system on the Bukit Panjang LRT (BPLRT) line.
Developed under the Kaizen for Safety movement with the support of the Land Transport Authority, iSafe utilises cutting-edge artificial intelligence-powered video analytics and strategically positioned cameras to detect and respond promptly to safety-related incidents, such as track intrusions and platform-edge proximity.
Officially launched by Dr Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State for the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment & Ministry of Transport, iSafe complements existing safety measures and addresses the unique challenges posed by the BPLRT's fixed barriers.
Completed ahead of schedule, iSafe boasts an impressive 99.8% accuracy in detecting track intrusions and continuously learns from real-life data to enhance its effectiveness over time.
With this proactive approach to safety, SMRT demonstrates its commitment to leveraging technology for the well-being of commuters, setting new standards for safety in Singapore's transport network.
“The safety of commuters is our top priority, and this is a good opportunity to raise public awareness about the various safety measures in our network including the emergency stop buttons, intercoms to communicate with staff if assistance is needed, and emergency exits to guide commuters back to the platform safely. We spare no effort to do what we can to seek innovative solutions to enhance commuter safety.”
Mr Lam Sheau Kai, President, SMRT Train.
