Memorandum of Understanding signed between SMRT and Polytechnics to boost talent pipelines

SMRT signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with all five of Singapore's polytechnics on 9 September 2022 to boost the talent pipeline for SMRT's operations, services and businesses, and Singapore's rail industry. The MoU seeks to enhance workforce readiness, support lifelong learning, and employability. SMRT offers polytechnic graduates a wide range of career opportunities, from engineers and cybersecurity experts to operations, communications, and behavioural science specialists.

To strengthen the connection between classroom knowledge and industry expertise, the initiative will encourage teaching staff from all polytechnics to be attached at SMRT. At the same time, SMRT engineers will also teach at polytechnics and SMRT equipment and facilities will be made available for both student and staff training. When the opportunity arises, SMRT and polytechnic staff can work together on projects to deepen industry knowledge and expertise.

SMRT’s Strides Mobility and Sentosa Development Corporation signed MOU to study and develop electrification of Sentosa Island’s internal transportation, maintenance and operation needs

Strides Mobility and Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 24 August 2022 to study and develop plans for the electrification of the island’s internal transportation, operations and maintenance needs. Sentosa is Asia’s first island destination to be certified for sustainable tourism. Together with EVCo, Strides Mobility’s subsidiary that provides electric mobility as a service (eMaaS), look forward to work with Sentosa to make the island greener to play, work and get around.

SMRT’s Stellar Lifestyle signed a MOU with China Carbon Neutral Development Group

“Stellar Lifestyle signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with China Carbon Neutral Development Group (CCNG) on 19 August 2022.

CCNG has strong track record in carbon asset management and negative carbon solutions, which is in line with the global trend of addressing climate change by achieving carbon neutrality, to promote green and low-carbon development of the economy. The MOU was signed with a common vision to create a better and more vibrant future for our communities, anchored on Environment, Social and Governance principles. The signing marks the beginning of a new and exciting chapter between CCNG and Stellar Lifestyle.”

SMRT honoured to be the sole recipient of Operator Awards in the Rail Category at the Public Transport Safety & Security Awards

SMRT is honoured to be the sole recipient of the Operator Awards in the rail category at the Public Transport Safety and Security Awards with Bukit Panjang LRT clinching the Excellence Award and Circle Line the Merit Award for Operational & Workplace Safety.

Our business arm, Strides Taxi also received the Excellence Award for the 2nd consecutive year, under the Operational Safety category for Point-to-Point Operator.
In addition, we have also received 8 out of 12 Star Awards, and 2 Special Commendation Awards for our projects and staff.

SMRT's Stellar Lifestyle partners treatsure and DBS Foundation to present ZERO, a pop-up at Woodlands to encourage zero food waste 

ZERO, a pop-up installation at the Stellar@TE2 retail zone of Woodlands MRT station, marks the first collaboration between Stellar Lifestyle, a business arm of SMRT, and treatsure. The installation is the first-of-its-kind in the Singapore rail transit network to blend sustainability education and retail innovation, and to promote zero food waste in support of Singapore’s drive towards zero waste.

Sponsored by the DBS Foundation, besides providing a novel offline-to-online shopping experience that allows the public to buy surplus groceries on the treatsure app, ZERO also categorises food items according to common sources of food wastage, such as “expiring”, “imperfect” and “excess”. This invites visitors to approach shopping for food from a different perspective, while learning more about real-world statistics on food wastage and the challenges of food wastage. Other than these, ZERO also introduces to the public various zero-waste alternatives to consider for consumption, home composting and upcycling.

Together, Stellar Lifestyle, treatsure and DBS Foundation hope to bring greater awareness of zero food waste to the public as well as drive positive change, in alignment with the SG Green Plan. 
  

SMRT attains ISO37001 Anti-Bribery Management Systems Standard and renews current ISO certificates

SMRT is proud to have attained the ISO 37001 Anti-Bribery Management Systems Standard in May 2022, certified by TÜV SÜD, an international corporation that provides testing, certification, auditing and advisory services, focusing on safety, security and sustainability solutions. The certificate is a result of an impartial and systematic assessment of the company’s anti-bribery function, conducted by an external auditor. It is awarded to companies that are capable of producing material evidence of a substantial system that supports anti-bribery. SMRT’s achievement affirms our commitment to a high level of integrity and transparency in our operations.

We have also successfully renewed our ISO 9001, 14001, 22301, and 45001 certifications in 2022, covering Quality Management, Environmental Management, Business Continuity Management and Occupational Health & Safety Management systems respectively.

SMRT wins UITP Marketing Campaign Award 2021 with Go-To SMRT

SMRT had the honour of testing, certification, auditing and advisory services, focusing on safety, security and sustainability solutions.

The certificate is the result of an impartial and systematic assessment of the company’s anti-bribery function, conducted by an external auditor. It is awarded to companies that are capable of producing material evidence of a substantial system that supports anti-bribery.

SMRT’s achievement affirms our commitment to a high level of integrity and transparency in our operations.inning the UITP Marketing Campaign Award 2021 for Go-To SMRT, a project which expands our services beyond providing daily transport, to include wayfinding, first aid, locating missing persons, assisting commuters with dementia, and more. Through this project, SMRT strives to enhance the overall commuting experience of our commuters and build affinity with the community which we are a part of. We are heartened by this recognition and will continue to deliver quality valued-added services to our commuters and the public.

UITP (Union Internationale des Transports Publics) is the International Association of Public Transport, a non-profit advocacy organisation that connects public transport stakeholders. The Award is a recognition of the creativity, originality, and innovation that Go-To SMRT has made to Singapore’s public transport system.

SMRT clinches several awards in Land Transport Excellence Awards 2022

SMRT is heartened to be a winner in several categories of the Land Transport Excellence Awards (LTEA) 2022, an annual event that showcases the best industry practices in Singapore’s land transport system.

One category in particular, the Outstanding Service Individual (Public Transport), was awarded to 9 of our staff members. One of the winners, Abdul Razak Bin Omar, was applauded for his exceptional service when he cleared the way and accompanied a commuter and her elderly, wheelchair-bound father from Bishan station to Lorong Chuan station. He took the initiative after he noticed the pair facing challenges moving around the busy stations. Service is core to what SMRT does as a Public Transport Operator and we will continue to go the extra mile to make our commuters feel safe and comfortable in our network.

 Winners of LTEA Service Awards

The Most Innovative Solution Award recognised our Project Overwatch, devised to monitor trains in real-time. The project provides staff with up-to-date information and situational awareness of on-ground activities, thereby allowing quicker allocation of resources and reduction of potential disruptions. 

A member of the Project Overwatch, Mr Mohammad Sami Tahir said that he is “very pleased to see that the hard work put in by [his] team has paid off with full scale adoption by the Circle Line operations team”.

Another award for SMRT is from the Most Innovative/Effective Safety Programme category, where we were recognised for the design and implementation of a bus sensor that captures motion and prevents bus doors from automatically closing. These sensors have resulted in a significant reduction of incidents related to bus doors closing on commuters, bringing a safer and more stress-free journey for everyone.

SMRT is honoured to take part in LTEA, and endeavours to continue upholding the standards that these Awards represent.
